MEET THE CHOREOGRAPHERS - JENNA ZIEBARTH

Meet Jenna Ziebarth          Jenna Ziebarth is a fifth year dance major. The title of her piece is  Leaves . Read below to learn more about Jenna and her piece! Can you give us a brief description of your dance? The style of movement, inspiration behind the choreography, message of the dance, etc.          Leaves is a work in three parts and follows the journey of human life. The work explores memories, acceptance, beginnings, and endings. How do you personally prepare for your rehearsals? Do you choreography on the spot or come with material prepared? What is your process like?          In the past, I've tried to come up with material prior to rehearsal and relay the material to my cast, but important details always got lost in translation. I decided this year to take my time and think of everything during rehearsal as I worked with/watched my dancers. I've been very focused on minimalism and reality for this work, so I've approached this work in rehearsal wi

MEET THE CHOREOGRAPHERS - JOSEPH SVIHEL

Meet Joseph Svihel          Joseph is a fourth year dance major and a psychology minor. The title of his piece is Spectrum . Learn more about Joseph and his piece below! Can you give us a brief description of your dance? The style of movement, inspiration behind the choreography, message of the dance, etc.          My piece, Spectrum , explores the variance of human identity and human interaction using 3 levels: individual, group, and societal. I use a blend of modern and lyrical movements to help me convey my ideas about the contemporary society-specifically Contemporary America. Spectrum aims to question the way we group/categorize ourselves, and reveal the grey areas within contextual dualities (light v. dark, opinion v. opinion, cohort v. cohort, and so on). How do you personally prepare for your rehearsals? Do you choreograph on the spot or come with material prepared? What is your process like?          I prepare in different ways at different points in the process. In t

MEET THE CHOREOGRAPHERS - SEAN FRENZEL

Meet Sean Frenzel          Sean is a third year dance and arts management major with a communications minor. The title of his piece is “I Love the Friends I Have Gathered on this Thin Raft” -Jim Morrison. Learn more about Sean and his piece below. Can you give us a brief description of your dance? The style of movement, inspiration behind the choreography, message of the dance, etc.          My piece is a tap dance focusing on the appreciation of the friends and loved ones we are lucky enough to share our brief existence with. Every moment in history has led up to where you are now and the relationships you have. It would have been so easy for a small, simple variable to have been different and made it so you never even met the people you hold most dear. For me, this consideration of cosmic luck makes life so much more beautiful. How do you personally prepare for your rehearsals? Do you choreograph on the spot or come with material prepared? What is your process like?

MEET THE CHOREOGRAPHERS - KYRA JOHNSON

Meet Kyra Johnson          Kyra Johnson is a senior psychology major and a second year dance major. The title of her piece is How Come...? Learn more about Kyra and her piece below. State your name, major(s)/minor(s), class, and name of your piece.          The movement style I choreographed is modern with a few pedestrian inspired qualities. Overall, my idea of the piece came from my personal testimonies, as well as, from the experiences of my peers that are minorities attending a predominantly white institution (PWI). Formally, the work takes a journey into the everyday life of an African-American women. Within the journey, there are adversities that one must face when walking into the world. How do you personally prepare for your rehearsals? Do you choreograph on the spot or come with material prepared? What is your process like?          Often I choreograph on the spot. I believe in the semester I’ve come with material to rehearsals a total of three times. I found it most

MEET THE CHOREOGRAPHERS - KATELYN PIEPMEIER

Meet Katelyn Piepmeier          Katelyn is a fifth year dance and business entrepreneurship double major. The title of her piece is Communion. Learn more about Katelyn and her piece below! Can you give us a brief description of your dance? The style of movement, inspiration behind the choreography, message of the dance, etc.          I started with Contact Improvisation and through the process discovered set material that relies on weight sharing, partnering, and group connection. I was interested in the possibilities and limitations of having four bodies stay connected through touch throughout the entire dance. This piece represents the truth that the actions of one individual affect everyone else whether they are intended to or not. It is not our choice but rather something outside ourselves that causes this unity. How do you personally prepare for your rehearsals? Do you choreograph on the spot or come with material prepared? What is your process like?          While I do pu
