MEET THE CHOREOGRAPHERS - KATELYN PIEPMEIER

Meet Katelyn Piepmeier          Katelyn is a fifth year dance and business entrepreneurship double major. The title of her piece is Communion. Learn more about Katelyn and her piece below! Can you give us a brief description of your dance? The style of movement, inspiration behind the choreography, message of the dance, etc.          I started with Contact Improvisation and through the process discovered set material that relies on weight sharing, partnering, and group connection. I was interested in the possibilities and limitations of having four bodies stay connected through touch throughout the entire dance. This piece represents the truth that the actions of one individual affect everyone else whether they are intended to or not. It is not our choice but rather something outside ourselves that causes this unity. How do you personally prepare for your rehearsals? Do you choreograph on the spot or come with material prepared? What is your process like?          While I do pu

MEET THE CHOREOGRAPHERS - JENNA ZIEBARTH

Meet Jenna Ziebarth          Jenna Ziebarth is a fifth year dance major. The title of her piece is  Leaves . Read below to learn more about Jenna and her piece! Can you give us a brief description of your dance? The style of movement, inspiration behind the choreography, message of the dance, etc.          Leaves is a work in three parts and follows the journey of human life. The work explores memories, acceptance, beginnings, and endings. How do you personally prepare for your rehearsals? Do you choreography on the spot or come with material prepared? I decided this year to take my time and think of everything during rehearsal as I worked with/watched my dancers. I've been very focused on minimalism and reality for this work, so I've approached this work in rehearsal wi

Meet Joseph Svihel          Joseph is a fourth year dance major and a psychology minor. The title of his piece is Spectrum . Learn more about Joseph and his piece below! Can you give us a brief description of your dance? The style of movement, inspiration behind the choreography, message of the dance, etc.          My piece, Spectrum , explores the variance of human identity and human interaction using 3 levels: individual, group, and societal. I use a blend of modern and lyrical movements to help me convey my ideas about the contemporary society-specifically Contemporary America. Spectrum aims to question the way we group/categorize ourselves, and reveal the grey areas within contextual dualities (light v. dark, opinion v. opinion, cohort v. cohort, and so on). How do you personally prepare for your rehearsals? Do you choreograph on the spot or come with material prepared? What is your process like?          I prepare in different ways at different points in the process. In t
